NO GODS NO MASTERS - Fear In A Handful Of Dust

This is the debut full length release from The Netherlands, No Gods No Masters, following an (excellent) demo/ep release in 2013......and it's an exceptional foray into the subterranean gloom inhabited by bands such as Iron Monkey and Barbarian Hermit.

'Fear In A Handful Of Dust' is a little different though. Instead of wallowing in angst, self pity and anger, No Gods No Masters seems perfectly happy crawling around with the rest of the bottom feeders. Maybe it's the almost 'hardcore' like 'bounce' on most of the tracks here, that makes this album sound strangely uplifting. Its like having an arm around the shoulder, lulling you into a false sense of security before the other arm comes around and smashes your teeth in. Make no mistake, the doom laden, fuzz enshrouded sludge on offer here will cause severe bruising to the eardrums. Of course, a spot on production always helps to heap on the pain. This album deserves to be embraced by the underground metal community.

I have a sneaking suspicion that 'Fear In A Handful Of Dust' by No Gods No Masters will be lurking somewhere in my top albums of 2016.
