MARS - Precession of the Equinoxes

It happens every now and then. A band springs from nowhere, although in the case of Mars, from New Orleans, drags itself, and completely blows you away. 'Precession of the Equinoxes, does just that. Three monumental tracks of psychedelic tinged doom, all of which smoulder, then erupt in a tephra of mountain levelling riffs.

When I first heard this fantastic album, I threw a Sleep comparison at it, somewhat unfairly as it turns out. The references to Sleep are there, no doubt, particularly on the first and title track 'Precession of the Equinoxes', but while Sleep sits bloated after gorging itself on one riff, Mars  hunts you down, ready to gather you up within its spindles of psych tinged gossamer, before crushing you against it's immense doom laden bosom.

Mars, must now take a step out of the shadow of obscurity, take a well deserved bow, and bask in the glory that is 'precession of the Equinoxes.'
