THE SHRIEKS FROM BELOW PODCAST SHOW Vol 72 - Core of Destruction Radio 30/9/17

The Shrieks From Below, playing on Core of Destruction Radio each Saturday @ 2pm cst, 3pm est, 9pm cet, 8pm UK

The Shrieks From Below Podcast Show, playing this Saturday @2pm cst, 3pm est, 9pm cet and 8pm uk on Core of Destruction Radio. This week's show surveys the carnage caused by Ya̧nomamö's upcoming release on Iommium Records with three exclusive tracks from their destructive new album 'Neither Man Nor Beast'. This isn't the only great new release however and I'll be playing a track from Dogzilla's superb album 'Astral Worship' Also, show favourites Doomstress - Band have remixed last year's self released ep and are releasing it via NoSlip Records. Titled 'The Second Rite' don't miss this a second time! Roberto Mura of Third-I-Rex has his fingers in the Shrieks pie once more and I'll be playing something off 'Toward Akina' by Seventh Genocide. As well as these incredibly good newies, Wolftooth have also recently released a self titled ep, and its a very great pleasure for me to include a track on the show. Finally, A recent discovery from Mexico made it this week. Couldn't resist playing the darkened Opeth meets Mastodon tones of Burnt to Ashes.

CHAINED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN - Decay And Other Hopes Against Progress

Some things should be left alone and untouched in case they wreak devastation upon humanity. 'Decay And Other Hopes Against Progress' by Chained To The Bottom Of The Ocean is such an item, that should be handled with trepidation, particularly when the opening track 'Confusion Hath Fuck His Masterpiece' opens up with a piercing burst of feedback. You just sense that this album is going to be an excruciatingly, uncomfortable ride, and so it is. Six, doom / sludge threnodies to the disaffected and the damned, rise from the depths from whatever dejected tomb the band were originally banished to.

I'm guessing that the band name is in homage another outfit synonymous with heaving bottom end drone, Louisiana's Thou and, indeed there is more than a passing resemblance, but whereas Thou's behemothic sludge has a punk ancestry running through its veins, Chained To The Bottom Of The Ocean has a more malignant demeanour, with a blackish, hardcore element mingling amongst the caustic sludge riffs.

Unbridled hatred and joylessness sweats from the pores of 'Decay And Other Hopes Against Progress'  leaving it soaked in pestilence.

THE SHRIEKS FROM BELOW VOL 69 ~ Core of Destruction Radio 9/9/17

The Shrieks From Below Show on Core of Destruction Radio @ 2pm CST, 3pm EST, 9pm CET and 8pm UK

Bands in order of play:

River of Souls

Babylon Asleep

River of Souls

Mammoth Salmon

Excruciation  hail from Switzerland and play a dark,a crunching style of doom/death.

(t)horns crept amongst the masses in 2009 (the band has been in existence since 1884), spreading their early Paradise Lost style dirge. As brooding as the silhouette of a Gothic castle morphing through the gloom of a Transylvanian mountain storm, emotive, baroque style riffs combat the dispiriting sense of unease.

Undoubtedly a doom band, Excruciation doesn't rely on just a slow, plodding tempo, this shambling corpse has a pulse. Before you breathe that sigh of relief that you've escaped the grisly fate that awaited you, you'll feel the cold, clawed talon grip your shoulder, spinning you around until you're staring straight into the cold, dead eyes of a Dickensian monster.

Something wicked is coming to get you and Excruciation squats in amongst the shadows, cackling with glee at the thought.
